Self portrait è la trasposizione in codice binario di un file immagine inciso su una lastra di metallo.
Il lavoro vuole aggiungere alla rappresentazione di un autoritratto il carattere della permanenza nel tempo senza variare in alcun modo il soggetto rappresentato. La fotografia infatti è strettamente legata ai supporti che la contengono e che ci permettono di riprodurla. Questo significa che la visualizzazione di un’immagine possiede un limite temporale legato alla relatività fisica o tecnologica del mezzo su cui viene visualizzata e archiviata.
Ad oggi un’immagine è precaria perchè non potrà essere riprodotta “per sempre” sia che essa sia analogica che digitale. Quello che non è precario è il codice binario che sta alla base di un file immagine digitale. Prorpio in quanto codice il linguaggio binario è la componente permanente del dato digitale che permette di superare il vincolo del tempo dando la possibilità di ricomporre l’immagine in qualsiasi momento.
Self portrait is the transposition of the file of an image engraved on a metal sheet into a binary code.
The work intends to add a characteristic of permanency in time to the representation of a self portrait without modifying in any way the subject of the portrait. The picture is in fact closely bound to the supports that comprise it and that allow for its reproduction. This implies that the visualization of an image has a temporal limit tied to the physical or technological relativity of the means on which it is visualized and filed.
To this day an image is precarious since it will not be able to be reproduced “for ever”, whether it be digital or analogical. What is not precarious is the binary code at the base of a digital image file. Precisely in the quality of a code the binary language is the permanent component of digital data that allows to overcome the constraints of time furnish the opportunity to recompose the image in any given moment.
